  1. Would you say that ambient music most fits your personality and that is why you are drawn to it, or is it something you seek to get away from the stress of the white-collar world that I know you fear?

  2. Good question. I don't know exactly why I'm drawn to ambient music, but I can guess. I enjoy that it gives me an escape in a way, from the hurried and impatient aspects of life.

The white-collar world has a lot to do with those aspects, so this is an escape from that, but I would also say white-collar is only one of the representatives for this type of manic and almost obsessive behavior that I need to break away from at times; see Hollywood, professional or collegiate sports, advertising, social media, a vast majority of anything online for that matter, and the list can go on and into most anything. That's the real point I guess, is that I actually enjoying observing and even getting involved in a lot of those obsessive things, but I enjoy the release (even if temporary) of them perhaps even more.

And maybe that's where my personality comes in, in the fact that I often put myself in situations where I am pulled (or make myself feel like I am pulled) in too many directions than I can realistically handle, and then I search for a release from that, whether listening to this (or other types) of music, taking a walk and taking pictures, watching a movie, or reading or whatever.

Getting back to the music though, I love that it manages to harmonize and reduce the number of elements we juggle down to one stream of sounds. In some way or another, I relate to it as I would relate to something in nature like a beach of sand, the ocean, or a forest. Something that can be broken down into elements and pass through time changing with the forces around it.

It's hard to describe, but hopefully that helps a bit.

  3. It's in times like these that I wish others would get e-mails for all these comments.
